Melody Thornton was born in Phoenix, Arizona. She has Mexican mother and an African-American father. Melody Thornton talent was first discovered at an elementary school talent show when she sang “Without You“.

She started singing at a young age, developing her sweet soprano voice over the years as a backup singer before being cast into the burlesque-turned-pop group the Pussycat Dolls in 2003. She was the only Doll selected by attending an open casting call for the group that same year; she is also the only one without a background in dancing.
